Review by Annette Walker

We have all at some time in our lives felt like an outsider. Ken Gire in his latest book “Relentless Pursuit” explores the experience of the outsider and God’s passion for the outsider (for example in the parable of the lost sheep). He refers to the Francis Thompson’s famous poem “The Hound of Heaven” and speaks of his own and others experiences including Adam and Eve “the first outsiders”.

“The history of humankind, in fact, is a story of hiding, both individually and collectively. The history of God, on the other hand, is a story of searching – walking through gardens in the cool of the day… standing at the wells in the heat of the day…traversing the road to Emmaus…calling down over the road to Damascus…” Ken speaks of the outsider in all of us that God wants to bring home. He tells how Jesus became the ultimate outsider, being born in a lowly stable (with no room in the inn) and crucified outside the city walls – so that we could come back inside to God where we belong.

I recommend this book by Ken Gire, which is very thought-provoking and touching, and includes at the end of each chapter, questions for discussion and study. May our eyes be opened to the one who will never fail to find us and embrace us as his child.

Annette Walker lives in Mississauga, ON with her husband Bob. They have three wonderful sons and an interesting grey and white cat called Savvy.  She is a Dental Assistant who is currently pursuing a writing career. After the Lord and family, reading, writing and painting are her passions.
